The NJ State Museum isn't a huge museum, but if you're looking for a fun outing for yourself or with the kids, it's very cool. Located at 205 W State Street, Trenton, NJ, even a walk afterwards through this picturesque town is a treat.
Admission is free (but a small donation is always best) with the only cost being for the planetarium shows and even that can be done cheaper with many discounts offered throughout the year. We haven't been yet, but we hear the Christmas themed Planetarium show is amazing. Maybe you'll see us there this year.

There is a sign stating "no photography allowed" but we did manage to snap a few photos before it was pointed out to us. To be honest, many of these exhibits are hundreds, thousands of years old....(you get the point), they can't take that much exposure to blinding bursts of light. Before going to a museum, ask if you can take non flash photography. If not, then put your cameras away, cell phones too and just enjoy!
In 1895, the museum was founded with natural history specimens that had been collected since the early 1800’s. In 1912, the second collection, Archaeology, was added, which happens to be one of our favorite exhibits.
