This is my favorite lighthouse, more for my memories of adventuring with my dad, and now my own kids. Plus one of our great great grandpas was a lightkeeper here in the 30's!
Horseshoe Cove
Horseshoe Cove was the point of embarkation of British Soldiers evacuating New Jersey after the Battle of Monmouth in 1778. French Naval forces narrowly missed a chance to trap British General Clinton’s forces at Sandy Hook. Instead British forces retreated by boat to New York City.
Fun fact :: The beacon on the Sandy Hook Lighthouse was extinguished on December 8, 1941, the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor. It remained dark until the end of World War II in 1945.
