We literally stumbled across this large stone while visiting Vincentown, NJ. It's a time capsule "from the children of 1986 to the children of 2061". It is placed by the Billy K. Haines Schoolhouse, Race Street, Vincentown, NJ. The capsule was sponsored by the Halley's Comet Society, USA. At the time Joseph Laufer was the president. Joseph Laufer was an internationally recognized authority on Halley's Comet and Christopher Columbus. He was a past President of the Southampton Historical Society and Program Director. Sadly, Joseph M. Laufer passed away, July 19, 2014.
Halley's Comet is a comet visible from Earth every 75–76 years. Halley is the only known short-period comet that is clearly visible to the naked eye from Earth. It is also the only naked-eye comet that might appear twice in a lifetime of a human. Halley last appeared in the Inner Solar System in 1986. It will next appear in 2061.
Halley's Comet was discovered by Edmond Halley. Halley was an English astronomer, geophysicist, mathematician, meteorologist, and physicist.
